Ability: All levels, but knowledge of art concepts is helpful due to the fast pace of the program.

Painting the Figure in Pastel
Joanne Burney
With the immediacy of drawing plus the excitement of color, dry pastelallows you to capture the figure in a way no other medium can. Spend time in an intensive study of the figure, developing an understanding of how to communicate its structure, sense of proportion and expression through value, shape and contour using a range of pastel types and colors.

Composing with Fiber: Create an Art Quilt
Jo Fitsell
Learn to employ traditional quilting techniques in the creation of a contemporary fine art quilt. This workshop will cover the full process from designing your concept through assembly and include dying, painting and manipulating fabrics, papers and other materials, and creating layered effects. Special attention will be given to creating a personal expression in making a contemporary fiber piece that is uniquely yours. Special note: $20 materials fee is required for this session for included supplies.

Landscape Painting en Plein Air
Doug Dawson
Spend time in the beautiful outdoors painting in oil or pastel with acclaimed artist and workshop instructor Doug Dawson. Learn what to look for in subject matter and composition, how to use thumbnail sketches, separate spaces into planes, and create the illusion of depth
while finding color solutions for different kinds of lighting. Each day will include demonstration, critique and summaries of the various principles utilized in the workshop. Participants will create 2-3 paintings on site.
Special note: Participants will need a portable easel.

Monotypes: Graphic Textures
Joe Higgins
Explore the visual possibilities of ink on paper and learn simple techniques for capturing the graphic power and visual strength of this medium. Students will explore the unique interactions of ink, paper, and press to create texture, graphic power, and spontaneous imagery. Starting with quick, one-drop prints in black and white, students will progress to larger multi-layer and color prints.

(includes $40 educator membership).
